Some whānau/families find it helpful to ask for it to be blessed. The site blessing may be led by a kaumātua, church or spiritual leader, cultural leader, or a family member or friend. 

For Māori, a karakia can farewell a person who has died and allow the spirit to peacefully return home to their ancestors and creator.
